Steel cut oats, sometimes called Irish oats, are groats that have been cut into smaller pieces. Because they go through relatively little processing, they retain more of their flavour, nutritional value, and texture. However, this also gives them a longer cooking time than rolled and quick oats.
Cooking Instructions:
- Measure out 1 cup of oats.
- Put the oats and a cup of water in a pot and set stove to medium-high heat. Place pot on stove.
- In about 3-5 minutes the oats will begin to boil and froth. When this occurs, turn the heat down to low. Stir to gauge consistency.
- Let the oats boil for about 5 more minutes.
